On February 17, 1759, Charles the Bourbon approved by royal decree the by-laws of this fraternal order, which was associated with the church of the Immaculate Conception. This Confraternity’s objective was “to understand, see, watch, hear and invoke Mary and the revelation of the mystery of Christ.”
To join the Confraternity one had to be twenty years old. First a written exposition was submitted to the Prior and then a novitiate of four months’ duration followed. The applicant swore commitment to the rules of the order, so that in his service he could attain “an intimate union with God and the unity of all brethren.”
Ad hoc rules established duties and requirements for the brethren who, besides showing love and commitment during the Confraternity’s activities, were also to live in a more Christian way.
