| IMMACULATE
CONCEPTION |
| This
church was opened for public worship in 1714 on the
San Biagio hillock. |
| In
1840 it was used for the first time for burials. It
was seriously damaged by the 1980 earthquake, but
was later rebuilt. Its façade remained intact;
the central and lateral doors of carved stone are
also the original ones. |
| The
church contains a 17th-century statue of San Vito
(St. Vitus) and one of the Immaculate Conception dating
back to 1730, and in addition a very beautiful wooden
baroque altar. |
Furthermore,
since 2002, it acquired a permanent creche scene ,
having as background Calitri’s streets as they
appeared prior to the 1980 earthquake. |
