| Among
the more moving Calitrian traditions are those associated with the
Lenten season. |
| These
traditions, evidence of the popular all-absorbing empathy with the
drama of the Passion, attained their fullest expression in ancient
hymns that accompanied the statue of Christ along the ascent to
the local Mt. Calvary (Monte Calvario). |
| Some
of these chants were opportunely tape-recorded in the mid 70’s
by Tonino Zabatta. |
| Unfortunately,
owing to the inferior equipment used, the sound quality isn’t
always the best; the audio is also compromised by background noises
and the voices and comments of the crowd. Nonetheless, the tape
gives us a very good idea of the complexities involved in these
processions. |
